PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tour. This is an intense Documentary Photography workshop with several shoots, including daily lectures, editing and critiques in oder to make you a better photographer, finding your vision and to teach you how to see either with a camera or in front of the computer by selecting images. This unique photographic experience will enable you to produce stunning imagery and a real documentary work about Dia de Muertos in the magic of Oaxaca. We will have 2 guides with us, and we will visit a family in their home, and we will have to enter in contact with natives, but we DON’T use any model maybe dressing typical clothing, because THIS IS A REAL DOCUMENTARY workshop.
“…Anyone is able to make portraits of people masked as calaveras by asking permission. This is exactly also no-photographers do, maybe with their mobile phones. As a photojournalist and an experienced photo expedition leader I tell you that I am not interested to do that… Me and photographers who work with me have to make a massive work of photojournalism, by producing great photos in documentaristic style, showing in depth the real atmosphere of Oaxaca celebrations, though a real immersion in the feeling and the traditions of Mexicans, because despite many arrive to Oaxaca thinking to be in a alternative Halloween, and this is the worst error they do… I have lived in Mexico for almost 10 years, this means I am really immersed and I know (I LOVE) the Mexican culture…If you want to do photos as anyone, good for instagram, go ahead with other photo expeditions. If you want to work with a photojournalist in a photo assignment for an editorial project, this is your workshop!”
Alex Coghe, your photo expedition leader

PLEASE NOTE: THE WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO ANY LEVEL OF PHOTOGRAPHER BUT IT IS A PHOTOGRAPHY TRAVEL EXPERIENCE, NOT A BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP.
This is not a tour: this is an intense photography workshop with several shoots, night and day, including daily feedback, with critiques focused to make you a better photographer and getting able you discover your vision and to produce stunning images for your portfolio and photographic growth.
It is important to read the books I will send you before the photo expedition, and I expect that if you decided to take this workshop is because you know my work. We will not be there to make tourism: there will be opportunities to make shopping by yourself, but not during the hours of workshop with me.
A fundamental part of this photo expedition is represented by the critique sessions, where everyone’s photos are reviewed and analyzed. I will help any participant photographer to discover his/her inner voice and help develop a story. Before the last night any student will be invited to send me the pictures of which I expressed positive thoughts.
The last afternoon I will take a class slide show featuring the single photo stories realized by the students during the week in Oaxaca.
